Technical details

BMR is calculated with the Mifflin-St Jeor equation (10×weight(kg) + 6.25×height(cm) − 5×age + 5 for men, subtracting 161 instead of adding 5 for women), and the TDEE in each row of the table is obtained by multiplying that BMR by the standard activity multiplier for each level.

Frequently asked questions

How is TDEE different from basal metabolic rate (BMR)?

BMR is just the energy your body uses at complete rest. TDEE adds the energy you spend moving throughout the day on top of that, so it's always higher than BMR and depends directly on the activity level you choose.

Why show all five levels instead of just one?

Because activity level is the hardest variable to estimate precisely. Seeing all five results in the same table lets you compare realistic ranges and pick the level that best represents your week with more confidence, instead of relying on a single figure.
