Calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI) from your weight and height, and instantly see which WHO category it falls into.

Divides your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in meters (BMI = weight / height²) and compares the result against the standard WHO ranges: underweight below 18.5, normal weight from 18.5 to 24.9, overweight from 25 to 29.9, and obesity at 30 or above.

Technical details

Applies the Body Mass Index (Quetelet) formula, BMI = mass (kg) / height (m)², using the international cutoff points from the World Health Organization rather than any country-specific scale.

Frequently asked questions

Is BMI an exact measure of body fat?

No. It's a simple screening tool — it doesn't distinguish muscle mass from fat mass and doesn't account for bone density, age or sex, so it can over- or underestimate actual body fat in some people, such as heavily muscled athletes.

Are BMI categories the same for everyone?

This calculator uses the standard international WHO ranges. Some countries or populations apply slightly different cutoffs, and children and teens are assessed with age-specific percentile charts, not these adult categories.
