or click to select it
Decodes the AVIF image with the browser and re-encodes it as PNG, a lossless format that preserves the alpha channel.
Use cases
- Preserving an AVIF image's transparency when converting it.
- Preparing AVIF assets for design software without format support.
- Archiving an image in a widely compatible format.
How it works
- 1
Upload your AVIF image
Drag the file in or pick one from your device.
- 2
Download the PNG
The conversion is automatic with no loss of transparency.
Technical details
- The AVIF's transparency is kept in the PNG.
- The resulting PNG is usually much larger than the AVIF: AVIF is one of the most efficient formats, and PNG is lossless.
- If the image is animated, only the first frame is converted.
- Limits: one image at a time, up to 25 MB and 40 megapixels.
Frequently asked questions
Can every browser open AVIF?
Recent Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and Safari from version 16.4, can. If your browser can't decode it, the conversion fails with a processing error; try another up-to-date browser.
