or click to select it
Decodes the AVIF image with the browser (which supports reading AVIF natively) and re-encodes it as JPG on a canvas.
Use cases
- Sharing an AVIF image with software that doesn't recognize it.
- Preparing images for platforms that require JPG.
- Visually checking the contents of an AVIF file.
How it works
- 1
Upload your AVIF image
Drag the file in or pick one from your device.
- 2
Download the JPG
The conversion is automatic; adjust the quality if you want to reduce the file size.
Technical details
- Reading the AVIF depends on your browser: recent Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and Safari from version 16.4, can decode it. If yours can't, you'll see a processing error.
- A quality slider (40% to 100%, 90% by default) sets the balance between file size and sharpness; you'll see the original and resulting size before downloading.
- JPG has no transparency: transparent areas are filled with white.
- If the image is animated, only the first frame is converted.
- Limits: one image at a time, up to 25 MB and 40 megapixels.
Frequently asked questions
Why don't you also offer converting to AVIF?
AVIF encoding isn't reliably supported across all browsers; to avoid inconsistent results, this tool only reads AVIF as input.
