JPG to WEBP

Convert JPG images to WEBP directly in your browser. WEBP is usually significantly smaller than JPG at similar visual quality, ideal for faster web pages.

or click to select it

Decodes the JPG image and re-encodes it as WEBP using the browser's own codec, with no need to upload the file to a server.

Use cases

  • Reducing image weight to improve a website's speed.
  • Preparing images for platforms that favor WEBP.
  • Saving bandwidth in mobile applications.

How it works

  1. 1

    Upload your JPG image

Drag the file in or pick one from your device.

  2. 2

    Download the WEBP

Adjust the quality if you want to shrink the file further.

Technical details

  • A quality slider (40% to 100%, 85% by default) sets the balance between file size and sharpness; you'll see the original and resulting size before downloading.
  • At similar quality, WebP is usually noticeably smaller than JPG, which speeds up page loads. The exact saving depends on each photo.
  • Recompressing a JPG always adds a little loss: start from the best-quality original you have.
  • EXIF metadata (camera, date, GPS location) isn't copied to the new file; phone photo orientation is applied to the pixels, so the image doesn't come out rotated.
  • Limits: one image at a time, up to 25 MB and 40 megapixels.

Frequently asked questions

Do all browsers support WEBP?

Yes, all modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) support WEBP for both viewing and generating images.

Where is WebP not a good idea?

Every current browser shows it, but some older programs, print services and upload forms still don't accept it. To send photos to other people, JPG is still the most compatible choice.
