Frequently asked questions

Why PNG and not JPG?

JPG doesn't support transparency — it always fills with a background color. PNG (and WEBP) have a real alpha channel, so they're the only formats that can truly represent "no background."

Is the resulting PNG large?

It depends on the original image size. Being lossless, a PNG can end up larger than the source JPG; if file size matters, you can recompress it afterward with the compress PNG tool.

Can I use it on logos or drawings, not just photos?

It works best with real photos of a clear subject. On very simple logos or illustrations (few colors, flat shapes) results can vary; in that case, an editor with color-based selection usually gives a cleaner cut.
