Open and extract a ZIP file online

Open a ZIP file in your browser, check which files and folders it contains, and download everything or only the files you tick, without installing any software.

Processed on your device. Nothing is sent to any server.

or click to select it

Decompresses the ZIP into browser memory when you open it and lists every entry with its full path. When you extract, a single file downloads as-is under its original name; several files are packed into a new ZIP that keeps their folder paths, because a browser can't write folders straight to your disk.

Use cases

  • Checking what an emailed ZIP contains before saving anything to your computer.
  • Pulling a single document out of a large ZIP without downloading the rest.
  • Unzipping on a phone or on a computer where you can't install software.

How it works

  1. 1

    Upload the ZIP

Drag it in or pick it from your device (up to 50 MB).

  2. 2

    Click "Open ZIP"

You'll see every file with its path and size, plus a summary of files, folders and total uncompressed size.

  3. 3

    Download what you need

"Extract all" downloads the full contents; if you tick boxes, "Extract selected" downloads just those files.

Technical details

  • Limits: 50 MB input ZIP, at most 2,000 entries and 300 MB in total once decompressed. They're checked against the sizes the ZIP itself declares before each entry is decompressed, as a guard against "zip bombs".
  • Encrypted ZIPs (password-protected, ZipCrypto or AES) aren't supported, because the tool doesn't decrypt archives.
  • Unsafe paths: entries with "../", absolute paths or drive letters are dropped and never downloaded.
  • Empty folders aren't included in the downloaded ZIP, since only files are packed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I view the contents without extracting anything?

Yes. Clicking the button only shows the file list with sizes; nothing downloads until you choose "Extract all" or "Extract selected".

Why do I get another ZIP when I extract several files?

Browsers can only download individual files, not create folders on your disk. To keep the folder structure, several files are delivered inside a new ZIP; a single file downloads directly.

Does it work with password-protected ZIPs?

No. Encrypted ZIPs can't be opened with this tool. If your file is a password-protected RAR, use the extract RAR tool, which does support passwords.
