Each step on the ladder multiplies or divides by 10. The quintal and the tonne are multiples of the kilogram:

  • 1 g = 10 dg = 100 cg = 1000 mg

Frequently asked questions

How many kilograms are in a quintal?

A metric quintal is 100 kg. The US and UK hundredweights are different units; see the metric-to-imperial mass converter.

Are mass and weight the same thing?

In everyday speech yes, but in physics weight is a force (measured in newtons or kilograms-force) while mass is measured in kilograms.
