Gauss

10000 G

Equivalents

Tesla1 T
Gauss10000 G

These are two different quantities, so the tool only converts within each pair:

  • Flux density: 1 T = 10,000 G
  • Magnetic flux: 1 Wb = 10⁸ Mx
  • How they relate: 1 T = 1 Wb/m² (flux is density times the area it crosses)

Use cases

  • Converting magnet or Hall sensor strength from gauss to mT.
  • Reading an MRI scanner's field in tesla.
  • Solving electromagnetism problems in CGS or SI.

How it works

  1. 1

    Type the amount

Decimals with a dot or a comma are accepted, as are negative values.

  2. 2

    Pick the units

Choose the source and target units; the result and the equivalents table update instantly.

Technical details

  • The weber measures flux (T·m²) and the tesla flux density; they can't be converted without knowing the area, so picking weber limits the target list to weber and maxwell.
  • Gauss and maxwell are CGS units; tesla and weber are SI units.
  • Results use 10 significant figures; very large or very small values are shown in scientific notation (e.g. 1e-10).

Frequently asked questions

How many gauss are in a tesla?

10,000 gauss; 1 mT = 10 G.

Why can't I convert weber to tesla?

Because they measure different things: flux (Wb) is flux density (T) times an area.
